Mime is not a Crime
Mr. RollerBlog suggested that I do a blog post on mimes today. He has a weird fascination with mimes. This may have something to do with the fact that his co-worker (hereafter known as “Mr. Mime”) was actually a mime back in the day. Or maybe Mr. RollerBlog is simply a closeted mime. Which, you know, is fine with me. Go for it honey - reach for the sky!
For Christmas, Mr. RollerBlog found the perfect Christmas gift for Mr. Mime - the Avenging Unicorn Play Set from Archie McPhee. The avenging unicorn is a must - because “everyone wants an imaginary unicorn friend that they can call forth to smite their enemies.” It comes with a smite-able new age lady, businessman, and a mime… not to mention four interchangeable horns with different magical powers.

I remember the commercials for Mummenschanz. They were all over NYC after school TV. At the time I recall thinking the pad of papers eyes bit was brilliant. I got a big kick out of there appearance on the Muppets (or did I just imagine that?)
I guess we have Mummenschanz and the mime movement of 70s to thank for today’s Blue Man Group.

Ugh, I hate mimes. Only movie with a mime I ever enjoyed was Mel Brookes “Silent Movie”. That’s not entirely true. I laugh hysterically anytime someone in a movie punches a mime.

@ Cromely - you did not just imagine that - both Mummenshanz and Shields and Yarnell appeared on the Muppet Show. You can check it out on YouTube.
@ Turnip - well it sounds like the Avenging Unicorn is for you!

Mimes creep me out, as do clowns. Maybe I need meds.

Shields and Yarnell…now there are some names that haven’t entered my consciousness for a while! …And I thought I was in touch with my seventies sensibilities!
Funny, funny stuff, that!
Where has all the great entertainment gone…?

@ nat - I think mimes and clowns creep most people out. Me included. Which is why I decided to do a blog on mimes, you know, to work through my mime issues. I think its worked!
@ gina - Shields and Yarnell = funny stuff!

I think we offended “Mr.Mime”.He tells me that he is not “closeted”,but is fully “out” and very proud.Right on Mr.Mime, fly that mime flag high!

LOL! Actually I was referring to you, Mr. RollerBlog, as being a closeted mime. That sentence was a little unclear - I’ve remedied it.
