The Robots of Death
Robots run amok!
And these aren’t just any ordinary robots. These robots have evil glowing eyes. They also have a sinister habit of repeating the phrase “Kill All Humans” in a robotic monotone. And they have sideburns!
Intrigued? Then you just may want to check out the Dr Who episode The Robots of Death. In this episode, robots have turned against humankind in a violent robot revolution. A mad scientist who was raised by robots is behind the dastardly plot and has reprogrammed the robots to kill all humans. Unfortunately for him, his evil plan backfires as he happens to be a human himself.
On Saturday we chanced upon these evil robots on our local PBS station. The Robots of Death is actually one in a four-part series which originally aired in 1977. We only caught the tail end of the show, but it was enough. I get a kick out of Dr Who but I don’t think I’ve ever actually watched an an entire episode from beginning to end before.
Here is a clip of the evil robots in action, for your viewing pleasure.

We own an extensive collection of Doctor Who on DVD and video, and Alan (the hub) still wants to watch it on television too. He used to set up this antenna meant to go on top of a house (it was about 10 feet long) in the living room so we could get the local PBS station that wasn’t on cable, which aired Doctor Who every Thursday.

I remember the days before we had cable - we used to go to some pretty great lengths to try and get our local NBC station so we could watch Saturday Night Live. I can’t say I miss those days

Loved Doctor Who, but never got into it like the real fans. All I remember is a phone booth, and an evil villain in a wheelchair that I seem to recall saying “Exterminate” alot. At least I won’t be playing Dr Who videos all day tomorrow, like I did after reading your Bowie post.

Oh my god. That’s hilarious.
I remember watching Doctor Who with Dad a few times around 20 years ago, back in the yellow house.

I am picturing some sort of combination of Bowie meets Dr Who in a surreal music video. Apparently I am easily amused…

Watching Dr Who with Dad in the Yellow house? I don’t even remember that. We should get some Dr Who videos and bring them up to the family abode next time we go visit.

[...] That gave me pause, as I suppose I could be considered a culprit of perpetuating the cult of nostalgia. I don’t disagree that it would be cool to see some brand-spanking new ideas in the genre. But in the meantime I’m going to go on ahead and obsess about the utterly silly, ridiculously tacky, and outrageously weird SciFi from the past. [...]

I am a big fan! I have seen ALL episodes of the old series from 1963 to 1987.
