Confessions of a Twilight Mom
As I have previously mentioned, I’m a big fan of the Twilight books series by Stephenie Meyer. I’ve read and re-read the books until my copies are dog-eared, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for the movie to come out. Well, that moment has finally arrived!
Like many other Twilight fans, I was there on opening night to see Bella and Edward on the big screen. And by opening night, I mean that I took a vacation day yesterday so that I could stay up late Thursday night to catch the midnight show. None of my friends are this insane dedicated, so I found a group of equally obsessed fans on the Twilight Moms web site who were planning an opening night soiree here in Seattle. We ate dinner together at a local restaurant, raffled off Twilight posters and goodies, played Twilight trivia games (I got the runner-up prize for the Twilight book quotes game…I know I know, I’m a total dork), and then enjoyed a private showing of the movie at the Columbia City Cinema.
And now for the million dollar question: what did I think about the movie? Well of course I loved it. (This is coming from someone who has read the book waaay too many times, so you’ll have to take my opinion with a grain of salt). That’s not to say that the movie was perfect. There were a few incredibly cheesy moments (but, you know, the books weren’t exactly cheese-free) and the special effects were a little… amateurish-looking. And, although I am a Kristen Stewart fan, I thought she was over-doing the stammering and sighing bit just a tad.
But those are minor details. The crux of the movie is the love story between Bella and Edward. Kristen and Robert Pattinson did an excellent job of convincingly portraying two teenagers who are head-over-heels in love. And, in that respect, the movie was very much a success.
So will I see it again? Absolutely. The first time I saw Twilight, I was fortunate enough to see it with other moms; the next time the theater will probably be packed with screaming tweenagers. But that’s ok. I was a screaming tweenager myself once.

We’re going to see it this afternoon and my daughter is so excited about it that she could barely sleep last night!

I went with my wife to see it last night. I’ve never even given more than a glance to the books (there’s no computer code in them), but she’s read them all. The theater was jam-packed with 13-14 year old girls who all screamed and cheered many times through the movie, but it was still good. At one point, the show a hotel entrance and I’m almost certain that it was the one right outside the theater (likely, since the author is from here and the scene was set in Phoenix), so that was a bit surreal. There were parts I wasn’t fond of, but also some new twists to the vampire legends that I thought deserved applause.

OK, I’ve gotta read these dang books. I keep hearing how great they are — and not from teenagers, from moms and women my age.
How fun for you that you got to see the movie with other Twilight Moms! It sounds like a blast.

I read the book (did a review of it on my book blog, too) and have looked at some of the trailers out on the web. I can see it’s appeal, but doubt I’ll get to see it as it’s not the kind of movie my husband would go to and I don’t go to movies alone.
I do want to read the other books in the series as I’m sure my 13 yo granddaughter will be reading these if she hasn’t already.

I’m going to see “Twilight” and “Australia” this week! I’m so excited because this will be the first time my husband and I have been to the movies since our daughter was born 13 months ago. I’ve heard so many great things about “Twilight” and I just LOVE vampire stories.

You know I bought the Twilight book ages ago, and I still haven’t read it. I think this means I have to hurry up…
