Disco Wednesday
Macho Duck!
Disco Mickey Mouse!
Watch out for Goofy!
These are just a few of the songs available on the 1979 Disney record Mickey Mouse Disco.
Thanks to Chris of VintageGent’s Menswear Daily for suggesting Mickey Mouse Disco as a topic for The RollerBlog.
Chris says:
Perhaps the true death of disco had nothing to do with the dawn of punk or new wave. I propose that what really killed it or sort of signaled the fact that it had become passe’ was the release of the LP “DISCO MICKEY MOUSE”. I think this was in 1978/79. My great-aunt bought a copy for each set of sister’s grandkids.

I was born in ‘81 so never witnessed the rise or fall of disco but after seeing this video I strongly believe Mickey killed it. Damn you Mickey!!

I don’t remember this, but I do remember “Disco Duck.” That was awesome.

Cromely - Disco Duck is a great song! I think when Disney put out the Macho Duck song on the Mickey Mouse Disco album it was probably partly in response to the Disco Duck song (and Macho Man by the Village People).

Hmm — wonder if Mickey and Donald spent their Saturday nights hanging out at 54 with Andy Warhol and Bianca Jagger?

Where on earth did you find the original commercial for that thing? My goodness, now the horrible memory will burned more vividly into my brain for yet another decade LOL. Of course, maybe they wanted to just kill disco in a gentle way as they used 30 year old cartoon clips rather than coming up with a whole animation sequence that actually related to the actual music on the album.
