January Top Droppers

February 08, 2009 By: User Imagerollerkaty (Who am I?) Category: Entrecard 2 Comments →

During the month of January I took a bit of a break from blogging to pursue other interests.  Ok I’ll be honest, I didn’t do much of anything last month, aside from working and watching a few movies.  I just didn’t feel like blogging.

But I wanted to say a big thank you to the Entrecard blogs that continued to visit the RollerBlog while I was absent.

A big thanks to my January Top Droppers:

Entrecard New Features Get Seventy-ized

February 01, 2008 By: User Imagerollerkaty (Who am I?) Category: Entrecard, The RollerBlog 11 Comments →

As I have mentioned previously, I’m an avid (and somewhat obsessed) member of the Entercard community. In a shameless ploy to gain 100 credits (which can be used for advertising on other blogs, in case you were wondering), I’ve been inspired to write a blog post about some of the new features that Entrecard has unleashed today.

Granted, this is a seventies blog. So these new features are getting seventy-ized!

News Feed Fever!

Drop Rank! Groovy Turnip!

Upgraded Dashboard! Disco Style!

Disco Closeup!

Shameless ploy over.

RollerBlog Sunday Surprise: The Anti-Meme

January 27, 2008 By: User Imagerollerkaty (Who am I?) Category: Entrecard, Meme, RollerBlog Sunday Surprise 19 Comments →

I’m not a big fan of memes. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the concept, memes are basically chain letters for bloggers. One blog links to a number of other blogs, and then they are supposed to in turn link to other blogs, and so on and so forth.

This week I was tagged in a quasi-meme by Turnip of Power in a response to a meme originated by Sam Freedom’s Blog. (Correction: Turnip tells me that the originator of this particular meme is ChainDrop.com - Sam’s meme is a similar but unrelated one. Mass meme confusion!)

Granted, Turnip isn’t a fan of memes either, and eloquently sums up why they are so annoying:

First of all you have the obligation to the person that just praised you and included your site, providing you with the ever beloved back-link. Then you have to link back to the originator of the list. Finally you have to link to 8 more people to pass the Meme on. A pyramid scheme preying on the politeness of others to return a favor.

Rather than perpetuating the meme, Turnip took the opportunity to just link to some favorite blogs. An inspired idea. And I’m doing the same…. but with a 70s twist. This is a seventies blog after all.

I’ve taken the liberty of “seventy-izing” 8 of my favorite blogs for your edification. All of the blogs listed below are worth checking out and have the RollerBlog stamp of approval.

(Please note: this is not intended to be a “meme”. This is simply a collection of some of my favorite blogs. The blogs named below are under no obligation to link back to me, or to listen to Saturday Night Fever. Really.)

Turnip of Power
The culprit behind this quasi-meme.
Also an interesting blog on technology, Internet marketing, and all things Entrecard.

Herb Urban
What would John Oates blog?

Cromely’s World
A collection of random thoughts, rants, raves and trivia.

A Strange Life
Tastes like silly.

Station Atomica!
An attempt to sort the junk from the gems on our shiny new Web 2.0 Internet. There’s a whole lot of junk.

Movie Cat
Because you love movies and you love cats!

JoeTech.com
It’s about technology.

Gorilla Sushi
We Eat Blogs.

RollerBlog Sunday Surprise 2

January 13, 2008 By: User Imagerollerkaty (Who am I?) Category: Entrecard, RollerBlog Sunday Surprise 7 Comments →

And now, dear readers, it is time for Part II in our series RollerBlog Sunday Surprise. In the past week I joined the Entrecard community, and in so doing have discovered some great new blogs. A few of these blogs had the occasional note-worthy seventies-related posts this past week.

And so, without further ado, I bring you the best of the seventies from the blog world this past week.

I am currently obsessed with Entrecard. Not only is it a great way to drive up the traffic to your blog, but also to discover other terrific blogs. And to geek out about the statistics having to do with who has looked at your blog due to ads that you have placed on other sites.

Ok, shameless raving over.

MovieCat: Because You Love Cats and Movies

Our first blog features movie posters - with a twist! Each movie poster has had the head of the actor or actress Photoshopped out and replaced with the image of a furry feline friend. The result is hi-larious! One of my favorites is this one from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979):

Herb Urban

Herb is obsessed with John Oates of Hall and Oates fame. Once I discovered this fact about Herb I was instantly hooked. Take a look at this picture from the past, in his post The Golden Era of Herban JewFros:

I don’t know what year this picture is from, but boy does it have that seventies style going on. Bravo!

Cromley’s World

This past week has been Star Trek Book Week on Cromley’s World. I have actually never read a Star Trek book before but now I am inspired. I think I will have to start with I am Not Spock by Leonard Nimoy (1977).
