Viva la Prog Rock!
NPR aired a story today on Mark Hammill, founder of the progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator in the early 1970s. After my mini-obsession with Yes a year ago, I’ve become intrigued with the prog rock genre and found the story quite interesting.
The story traced the history of Van der Graaf Generator and of the band’s musical influence. According to the All Things Considered web site, “as a founding member of the British progressive rock scene in the early ’70s, Hammill reached beyond the pretension of prog rock and into the fury of punk.”

These guys were always on my radar, but I had never heard their music.I had my own mini-obsession with prog in general back in high school…………….bands like Magma,Can,Neu!,Hawkwind early Tangerine Dream,Nektar,70’s era King Crimson and of course Yes were gods to me.
It’s all pretty awesome stuff that’s incresingly harder to find on vinyl nowadays.

I absolutely remember my friend’s mother having one of those. It was awesome. It went with the gold flocked wallpaper. The little oil dribbles used to reflect so nicely off the plastic on their furniture.
